2001: The State of Nebraska is primarily rural, with a solid agricultural base. Nebraska’s population, according to the 2000 Census was 1,711,263. The state used a planning grant to support the development of a strategic plan to manage sex offenders in the community. The state supervises approximately 700 sex offenders under community supervision. A multidisciplinary group has worked together in the past to explore gaps in the system of sex offender management, and the team is committed to continuous participation in a process to identify measurable goals and outcomes for improving their approach. The goal of the team was to create a strategic plan that allows them to implement a proactive, comprehensive, and cohesive system of managing sex offenders in Nebraska’s communities.
